Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Care Center
at Morristown Medical Center
All proceeds from Mansion in May 2012 will be directed towards the establishment of a new Inpatient and Palliative Care Center at Morristown Medical Center. The sole mission of the Center is to help patients with chronic or life-limiting illness live as comfortably as they can, for as long as they can. Support this important Center with a donation to Mansion in May.
The Inpatient Hospice & Palliative Care Center will be the first of its kind at Morristown Medical Center and will demonstrate the Medical Center's commitment to treating the "whole patient", regardless of prognosis. The 12-bed unit will be located in the main hospital, providing immediate and convenient access to staff and services. In terms of design, the Center will have a residential look and feel - much like an elegant private home. As you enter the Center, a beautifully appointed foyer will create a sense of calm and ease. Soothing colors, ambient lighting and tasteful furnishings will be used throughout the spacious common areas and private patient suites. Each suite will have a patient bed, private bath and can accommodate overnight visitors. The Center will also include expansive windows and sunrooms to bring in natural therapeutic light, as well as a relaxing outdoor patio space and meditation room.
A seasoned, compassionate care team will staff the Center. Palliative care professionals are unlike any other caregivers. It is their remarkable sensitivity and true understanding of life-limiting illness that sets them apart. At MMC Karen Knops, MD, Medical Director of Palliative Care, will lead an interdisciplinary team and work with patients and families to ensure the best course of treatment. Bereavement counseling will also be provided for family members following the death of a loved one. This vital service will take survivors through a step-by-step journey toward reassurance, understanding, acceptance and ultimately healing.
Morristown Medical must rely on philanthropy to build the Center and the Women's Association is proud to support Morristown Medical Center in its efforts to establish the Inpatient Hospice & Palliative Care Center.
